January 28th, 2016:  The Brown County Parks department will be officially commissioning the new lighting system tonight that was fundraised and installed with the generous support and efforts of so many members of our Green Bay ski community, friends, families and businesses. Expect to see the event tonight on TV or in the paper tomorrow. Here is a message from Bay Nordic’s president, Paul Egelhoff:

I would like to notify everyone that Brown County will be conducting a public relations event to official light the ski trails on this Thursday [1/28/2016]. We are invited to attend the event which will be held at the ski lodge starting at 4:30. The county executive will give a couple remarks then we will turn over the lights to the county for their use and operation. We have invited some of the sponsors and are looking to acknowledge all the hard work our club and the county staff have done to make this such a successful project. <Click here to read the Press Release>

Funds are still being raised to pay for Project Illumination and future projects such as snow making and a biathlon course. If you missed our initial fund drive, you can still sponsor one of the remaining light poles and have a commemorative plaque installed in your honor. Visit baynordic.org for details.

Bay Nordic Ski Club Inc. in collaboration with the Brown County Parks Dept. announces the commencement of “Project Illumination”. This project will raise funds for Bay Nordic programs and install a lighting system along approximately 4 kilometers of the Nordic ski trails at the Brown County Reforestation Camp located just outside of Green Bay in Suamico, WI.

Bay Nordic has entered into an agreement with Brown County to engage in the funding, planning, and installation of the project. The project cost is estimated to be at $250,000 and will be funded by private contributions and public grants. The tentative schedule is to have the system installed by the 2015-2016 winter ski season.

The Bay Area Nordic Ski Club was founded in 2009 as a youth program and expanded in 2013 to build a program that brings together various ski groups in the area to help encourage skiing as a winter activity of choice. Serving over 250 participants, our emphasis is the expansion of youth and adult fitness opportunities and ensuring the long-term viability of Nordic skiing in the region through community outreach and support of local trail systems.
